The shipment of disaster relief was directly flagged off by Coordinating Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono aboard the naval vessel KRI Semarang 594 in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on December 22, according to his advisor for communication and public information, Herzaky Mahendra Putra.
In a statement cited here on Friday, Putra noted that the aid distribution will be led by the two teams tasked with setting up emergency bridges and toilets and providing access to clean water.
He highlighted that the relief, aimed at victims of floods and landslides that struck last November, consists of 42 truckloads of instant and ready-to-eat meals, clothing, personal supplies, and cookware.
Furthermore, the ministry is also dispatching four- and eight-person tents, power generators, portable toilets, inflatable boats, materials for emergency infrastructure, communication equipment, vehicles, clean water, water purifiers, and medicines.
Putra noted that the assistance has been tailored to the actual needs of disaster victims in affected regions across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, adding that Minister Yudhoyono had conducted on-site assessments in several areas.
To support the relief agenda, he continued, the ministry deployed one team on Thursday (December 25) and another on Friday, led by several officials, including Deputy for Basic Infrastructure Coordination Muhammad Rachmat Kaimuddin and Yudhoyono’s expert staff members.
He further explained that the two teams are tasked not only with directly monitoring aid distribution but also with overseeing the installation of emergency infrastructure, including a 250-meter bridge connecting Aceh Tamiang and East Aceh districts in Aceh Province.
