Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian saw off the first of three batches of the disaster relief team at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Saturday (January 3), according to a statement released on Sunday.
The team comprises 892 cadets from the Institute of Public Administration (IPDN) and 240 civil servants from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
“I urge all IPDN cadets involved in this mission to perform their duties professionally, uphold ethics, and avoid actions that could prove counterproductive for disaster-affected residents,” Karnavian told the team.
He further explained that the team is scheduled to work for one month, until February 3, 2026, with the primary task of cleaning local government facilities, including the District Head Office, to enable the immediate restoration of governance and public services.
“Government offices are the key indicators of recovery, as they underpin orders, authority, and resource mobilization,” he said.
The minister noted that his institution has partnered with Lion Air to provide free air transport for the team to Aceh. He emphasized that cooperation between the government and private companies is vital to accelerating disaster response and recovery efforts.
Lion Group President Director Daniel Putut Kuncoro Adi underscored the company’s commitment to supporting the government in humanitarian initiatives, citing its role in disaster response following the 2004 Aceh tsunami and other emergencies in various regions.
He confirmed that the airline is offering free air transport for the ministry’s disaster relief team as part of its contribution to national post-disaster recovery measures.
Deputy Home Affairs Ministers Bima Arya Sugiarto and Akhmad Wiyagus, along with other officials, also attended the send-off ceremony.
