Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono reaffirmed that Indonesian diplomacy will always be guided by principle and courage in every step toward a peaceful and independent Palestine.

Sugiono, while delivering the 2026 Annual Press Statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Wednesday, stated that for Indonesia, the independence and sovereignty of Palestine are part of Jakarta's constitutional mandate that we must uphold.

“Palestine is a reminder that diplomacy must never lose its conscience,” he emphasized.

This commitment, he noted, is reflected in Indonesia’s active engagement across various international forums to push for an end to violence, the restoration of humanitarian conditions, and the realization of a peaceful and sovereign Palestine.

Indonesia, Sugiono said, has chosen to engage actively in international efforts, including as co-chair of the Working Group that produced the New York Declaration and by contributing to advancing implementation of the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit.

In addition, Indonesia has been actively involved in discussions on an International Stabilization Force (ISF) as a transitional step to ensure a permanent ceasefire and open access for humanitarian assistance in Gaza.

“However, the ISF is a temporary instrument; peace through the Two-State Solution remains the ultimate goal,” Sugiono stated.

Furthermore, Sugiono underscored that Indonesia’s diplomacy within the Islamic world is being strengthened through a focused, well-planned, and cross-sectoral approach.

Drawing on Indonesia’s experience as the country with the world’s largest Muslim population and a strong track record of moderation, he said Indonesia has both the credibility and the responsibility to build more substantive cooperation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also developed a Roadmap for Cooperation with the Islamic World, which serves as an example of a more structured, long-term, and results-oriented policy framework.

The roadmap is intended to ensure that Indonesia’s cooperation with the Islamic world proceeds consistently, is measurable, and supports national interests.

Sugiono added that strengthening Indonesia’s diplomacy in the Islamic world is also being translated into concrete steps.

One such step, long envisioned by the President, is the establishment of an Indonesia Hajj Village initiative in Makkah, as part of strengthening state capacity and a concrete manifestation of the state’s presence in improving services and facilities for Indonesian Hajj and Umrah pilgrims.
