Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - The joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team recovered 29 bodies from the Cisarua landslide and handed them over to the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team in the search for landslide victims in West Bandung District, West Java.

The Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Mohammad Syafii, on Monday, informed that four bodies had been recovered during today's search operation and that approximately 61 other victims were estimated to remain buried.

"Four bodies were recovered today, bringing the total number of victims handed over to 29 since the SAR operation was first launched,” he said.

Syafii also informed that 17 bodies have been identified, and the police are still identifying the remaining bodies.

"Regarding the number of victims who have been identified, the legal authority lies with the National Police. The latest information I received is that 17 victims have been identified and handed over to their families," he said.

His team is continuing the search and evacuation process for victims of the Cisarua landslide on Monday by deploying joint personnel and nine heavy equipment to several affected areas.

He added that search efforts are also being strengthened with air support to reach areas difficult to access by land.

He explained that limited road access to the landslide site is one of the obstacles to the evacuation process.

"Heavy equipment has been deployed today and since yesterday. However, due to limited road space, only small and medium-sized heavy equipment can be operated," he noted.

He said the landslide in the Cisarua area was extensive and complex, making field search efforts more challenging, with the slide estimated to stretch 2,009 meters in length and 140 meters in width.

"Based on measurements, it was discovered that there were two landslide crowns. The length from the crown to the landslide tongue is estimated to be 2,009 meters, with a maximum width of around 140 meters. However, this figure is an estimate because the landslide is expanding to the left and right," Syafii detailed.

He added that the search and rescue operations will continue to be adjusted based on evaluation results and field conditions, including personnel safety aspects.

"The SAR operation will be evaluated on the seventh day. However, the local government, through the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), has declared a 14-day emergency response status," he informed.
