"It is crucial that we all undertake massive and well-organized cleanup efforts to manage waste under the Indonesia ASRI movement, with the Environment Ministry as the coordinating body," he remarked after chairing a coordination meeting at his office in Jakarta on Thursday.
Hasan emphasized that the nationwide waste management agenda should involve all ministries and state agencies, the military, the police, state- and region-owned enterprises, as well as educational institutions up to the university level.
He also urged the Ministry of Religious Affairs to mobilize religious schools, including madrasas, to participate in the movement, which has received approval from President Prabowo Subianto.
"As instructed by the president, we must undertake comprehensive waste management measures under the movement, beginning with household sorting and continuing through proper processing at landfills," the minister affirmed.
President Prabowo highlighted plans to promptly launch the Indonesia ASRI movement while addressing regional leaders from across the country at the 2026 National Coordination Meeting of Central and Regional Governments in Bogor, West Java, on Monday (Feb. 2).
He explained that ASRI is an acronym for aman, sehat, resik, and indah, which translate to safe, healthy, clean, and beautiful.
Under the movement, he said, the government aims for visible improvements on the ground, including environmental cleanliness and better management of public spaces, to enhance quality of life and attract foreign tourists to Indonesia.
To that end, the president urged all parties, including government institutions and schools, to conduct regular cleanup activities in their respective areas.
He emphasized the scale rather than the duration of each effort, noting that even brief actions can have a significant impact if carried out nationwide.
