"I would like to appreciate the contributions of the Confucian community for maintaining harmony, strengthening tolerance, and bolstering national unity," he remarked.
Gibran made the statement in his address for Chinese New Year 2577 Kongzili, issued by the Vice Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The vice president observed that members of the Indonesian Confucian community had demonstrated concrete efforts to maintain societal concord and foster tolerance, noting their pivotal role in the nation’s aspiration for unity in religious and cultural diversity.
He argued that aligned visions and concerted efforts among all elements of society in nurturing unity and tolerance are key to paving the way for a safer and more prosperous Indonesia.
"Let us hope that, together, we will succeed in making Indonesia safe and prosperous by reinforcing commitment to maintaining harmony and tolerance," Gibran said.
Furthermore, the vice president extended Chinese New Year greetings and expressed hope that the celebration marks the beginning of a year of health and welfare for all.
"I wish you a happy Chinese New Year, 2577 Kongzili. Gong xi fa cai, may you all be blessed with health and prosperity," he addressed the public.
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) delivered similar remarks earlier in Batam City, Riau Islands.
"The Chinese Indonesian community has a significant role in national development," he affirmed during an event marking Chinese New Year on Monday (Feb. 16).
AHY observed that Chinese Indonesians had made notable contributions to the country’s progress through their economic and business capacity, expanding employment opportunities and supporting industrial growth nationwide, including in Batam.
He also expressed hope that the Year of the Fire Horse, 2577 Kongzili, would see Indonesians excel in their jobs, achieve financial and business success, and strengthen relationships across all levels of society, from family to the wider community.
