“WFH is purely a short-term tactical strategy, a quick relief to reduce daily fuel consumption without in the slightest compromising productivity and public services,” Vice President’s Special Staff member Nico Harjanto said in a written statement quoted here on Thursday.
The statement was delivered in response to remarks by Indonesia’s 10th and 12th Vice President Jusuf Kalla, who had previously said that the WFH policy is not an effective solution to reduce fuel consumption.
In his statement, Harjanto emphasized that input from national figures such as Jusuf Kalla always serves as an important reference for the government in formulating policies.
In addition to taking short-term tactical steps, he added that the government is also preparing fundamental solutions through energy transition in the medium and long term.
These strategies include accelerating the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem, transitioning to B50 (a blend of 50 percent biodiesel and 50 percent conventional diesel) bioenergy, and strengthening domestic fuel infrastructure and production.
According to him, these efforts are part of the government’s strategy to maintain national economic stability amid challenges in energy consumption.
“We are addressing today’s crisis without sacrificing national economic stability, while continuing to build future energy sovereignty,” he said.
Previously, Jusuf Kalla stated that the WFH policy does not necessarily reduce energy consumption, as electricity usage continues even when activities are carried out from home.
He also stressed the importance of maintaining productivity in facing economic challenges, and not using WFH as a reason to reduce work activities.
