Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed enhancing strategic cooperation across various fields during a bilateral meeting at the Elysee Palace in Paris, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated.

In a statement received here on Wednesday, Wijaya said Prabowo spent more than two hours in a one-on-one meeting with Macron at the palace on Tuesday (April 14), after concluding intensive engagements with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow a day earlier.

He underlined the significance of the diplomatic tour, noting that both Russia and France are veto holders at the United Nations Security Council and possess considerable influence in global economics as well as major energy resources.

In Paris, he added, Prabowo and Macron exchanged views on strengthening ties in energy, education, communication, and digital affairs, while exploring opportunities for long-term investment projects.

Wijaya noted that the strong personal bond between the two presidents has played a pivotal role in deepening bilateral partnerships.

"The two leaders have maintained a close relationship since President Prabowo's tenure as defense minister up until now," the secretary explained.

He said the Paris summit marked another crucial milestone in Indonesia-France relations and opened wider opportunities for collaboration amid souring geopolitics and evolving global economics.

Earlier, the Indonesian government said in an Instagram post that Prabowo and Macron used the high-level talks to discuss expanding cooperation in defense, green energy development, infrastructure, transportation, education, and the creative economy, among other fields.

Indonesia views France as an important partner in Europe, with which it aspires to pursue sustainable and mutually beneficial cooperation, according to the statement.

The Indonesian president arrived in Jakarta via Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base on Wednesday afternoon, wrapping up his two-leg diplomatic tour.
