Spokesperson from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Yvonne Mewengkang, said that the Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey, Achmad Rizal Purnama, will represent Indonesia at the ADF and the Group of Eight meeting, which will discuss the Palestinian issue and geopolitical issues in the Middle East.
"The Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Turkey will represent us at the Group of Eight meeting, which is also planned to be attended by officials from other Group of Eight member countries," she informed in a statement on Friday.
At the forum, Indonesia will continue to ensure its active role in the ongoing discussions on the Palestinian peace process and current geopolitical issues in the Middle East.
Mewengkang added that Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono was expected to attend the 2026 ADF in person and scheduled to speak at a panel session on ASEAN cooperation during the event.
He was also set to hold bilateral meetings with several counterparts from friendly countries on that occasion.
However, Sugiono was unable to attend the event due to "a strategic directive from the Indonesian President requiring the Foreign Affairs Minister to remain in Jakarta," Mewengkang remarked.
However, the ministry assured that Indonesia remains committed to enhancing cooperation with Turkey, both bilaterally and within the ASEAN framework, including through its commitment to participate in the ADF 2026.
The ADF is an annual activity and a diplomatic platform for the Turkish government to discuss global and regional issues through the involvement of various stakeholders, from political representatives, international organizations, academics, and business actors.
Indonesia's presence on the Turkish diplomatic agenda demonstrates the Indonesian government's support for Turkey, which is currently in the process of becoming a new ASEAN dialogue partner.
