Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's athletics team won eight gold and one silver medals at the 86th Singapore Open Track & Field Championships 2026.

Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Marciano Norman praised the athletes for their achievement on the international stage.

"This achievement is expected to motivate young athletes and serve as evaluation material to achieve higher results," he said in a statement on Thursday.

The Indonesian Athletics Federation (PB PASI) fielded a contingent of 15 athletes, five coaches, and three supporting staff for the tournament, held at the Singapore National Stadium from April 15 to 17, winning a total of nine medals.

Daniel Simanjuntak of North Sumatra delivered a standout performance, winning gold medals in the men's 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter events with times of 14:35.25 and 31:20.79, respectively.

Another gold came from Yad Hafizudin, who clocked 3:54.34 in the men's 1,500-meter event. Meanwhile, Maulana Ismail won silver in the men's 400-meter event with a time of 47.79 seconds.

In other track events, Novi Anggun Lestari won gold in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.04, while Pandu Sukarya secured gold in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:21.77.

Indonesia also claimed three gold medals in field events, with Maria Natalia Londa recording a 12.94-meter jump in the women's triple jump, Atinna Nurkamila Intan throwing 49.86 meters in the women's javelin, and Idan Fauzan Richsan clearing 5.00 meters in the men's pole vault.

Norman expressed hope that PB PASI would continue developing talented athletes, noting that athletics has long been a key sport for Indonesia in international multi-sport events.

"Let us hope this achievement continues in future international competitions. I believe athletics will become one of Indonesia's main medal contributors," he said.
