Jakarta (ANTARA) - Flooding submerged 115 neighborhood units across West, East and South Jakarta, with water levels ranging from 15 cm to 2.4 meters, the Jakarta Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) noted on Tuesday.

The flooding was triggered by heavy rainfall that caused several rivers to overflow, including Krukut, Grogol Mampang, Angke, Pesanggrahan, Keuangan, Mampang, and Ciliwung rivers, BPBD Jakarta Chief Marulitua Sijabat said.

As of Tuesday morning, floodwaters were still inundating 115 neighborhood units and four road sections across the affected areas, according to the latest data released by the agency.

Sijabat said the intense rainfall on Monday raised water levels at multiple monitoring posts, including Pesanggrahan (alert level 3) at 4 p.m. and Depok (alert level 3) at 5 p.m.

Water levels also rose at Angke Hulu, reaching alert level 3 at 5 p.m., then alert level 2 at 6 p.m., and later escalating to alert level 1 at 8 p.m., indicating worsening flood risks.

Additional increases were recorded at Pasar Ikan floodgate (alert level 2) at 7 p.m., Karet (alert level 3) at 7 p.m., Cipinang Hulu (alert level 3) at 8 p.m. and Sunter Hulu (alert level 3) at 8 p.m.

"These conditions led to flooding in several parts of Jakarta, with water depths ranging from 15 centimeters to 240 centimeters," Sijabat said.

Authorities have deployed personnel to monitor flooded areas and coordinate with water resources, public works, and fire departments to pump out water and ensure drainage systems function properly.

Residents were urged to remain cautious and alert to potential flooding, as well as to contact the emergency hotline 112 for assistance. The service operates free of charge around the clock.

In West Jakarta, flooding affected 15 neighborhood units, including Kedaung Kali Angke (3), Rawa Buaya (2), Kedoya Selatan (4), Joglo (1) and Kembangan Selatan (5).

South Jakarta reported the highest impact with 78 neighborhood units inundated, notably Petogogan (37), Pela Mampang (9), Pejaten Timur (8) and Bintaro (6), among other affected areas.

In East Jakarta, 22 neighborhood units were flooded, including Bidara Cina (4), Kampung Melayu (8), Cawang (7) and Cililitan (3), according to the BPBD Jakarta data.
