The 320 foreigners, comprising 228 Vietnamese, 57 Chinese, 13 Myanmar, 11 Laotian, five Thai, three Malaysian, and three Cambodian nationals, were previously arrested following a raid on the online gambling network at Hayam Wuruk Plaza Tower in Jakarta.
Director of General Crimes at Polri's Criminal Investigation Department, Brigadier General Wira Satya Triputra, explained in Jakarta on Sunday that the 320 foreigners are being held at the immigration detention centers in South Jakarta and West Jakarta.
Meanwhile, one other suspect arrested by the police is an Indonesian citizen, who has been handled by Polri's Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
"After conducting an investigation yesterday, it turned out that one person is an Indonesian citizen, a Jakarta resident," he said.
Triputra asserted that Polri will coordinate with the relevant agencies to trace both the flow of funds and the sponsors behind the operations.
He added that investigators are also examining who rented the Hayam Wuruk Plaza Tower and who provided facilities and infrastructure for the 321 suspects.
He expressed hope that the case would help prevent Indonesia from becoming a hub for international online gambling syndicates.
Head of the Immigration Supervision Sub-directorate at the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, Arief Eka Riyanto, thanked Polri for its cooperation in uncovering the international online gambling syndicate involving the 320 foreign nationals.
“For now, they are being held at immigration detention centers in West Jakarta and Kuningan, South Jakarta, while awaiting further legal proceedings from the police,” he stated.
