"We appreciate the Governor's initiative because it can be an inspiration and model for regions across the country," Hasan said in Jakarta on Sunday, while attending the Waste Sorting Movement event, which also marked the launch of Jakarta's 499th anniversary.
He hoped the initiative will reduce the amount of waste to be disposed of, as it can be utilized before disposal. "The most challenging is household waste. Sorting, sorting," he said.
According to him, the waste remains a common enemy, and therefore the government continues to strive to transform it into something useful.
He explained that sorted waste can be utilized and become a source of hope for the people, like a raw material for electricity.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the waste sorting program is expected to reduce the burden of waste disposal at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Disposal Site (TPST).
"The Jakarta government officially held a waste sorting program in accordance with the governor's instructions. It was also held simultaneously in five cities and Pulau Seribu," he said.
He believes that if the program is effective, it can reduce the burden of waste at the Bantargebang TPST and only the residue is disposed of.
