Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Higher Education Ministry on Tuesday urged universities to protect members of campus violence prevention task forces, warning they face intimidation, terror and doxing while handling sensitive cases.

Beny Bandanadjaja, the ministry’s director of learning and student affairs, said universities must ensure the safety of task force members while creating safer academic environments.

“These task forces also need protection. We hope university leaders guarantee protection and assistance during such processes,” Bandanadjaja said in Jakarta.

He said task force members remain vulnerable to intimidation, psychological pressure and online harassment from parties linked to reported violence cases.

According to Bandanadjaja, tensions between victims and accused individuals often create volatile situations that place mediators under significant emotional strain.

He warned that universities must immediately establish policies supporting the protection of task force members to address the growing risks.

Without comprehensive safeguards, the ministry fears lecturers and students will lose interest in volunteering for the campus anti-violence teams.

“We truly hope they receive protection from university leadership; otherwise, no one will want to join the task forces,” he said.

Beyond post-incident protection, the ministry continues urging universities to prioritize preventive measures against campus violence under Ministerial Regulation No. 55/2024.

Bandanadjaja said large-scale and sustainable education campaigns remain the most effective way to reduce violence cases and ease the burden on campus task forces.
