Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police were not afraid to name prosecutor Cirus Sinaga a suspect in a case of falsification of the text of a prosecution`s draft sentencing demand, a spokesman said.

"Let us prove it. Do not ask about it to him (Gayus Tambunan). Let us prove that the police are working professionally and proportionately and are not covering up anything," National Police chief intelligence Commissioner General Ito Sumardi said here on Thursday.

Gayus said after being convicted in a corruption case on Wednesday that the police were afraid to uncover Cirus`s case because Cirus knew something about the conviction of former anti-graft agency chief Antasari Azhar.

Ito said in a near future people could see what the police had done in connection with a report from the attorney general office about Cirus and lawyer Haposan Hutagalung to the police on Thursday (Jan 28).

Cirus had falsified the sentencing demand changing the demand from one year on probation (R455) to one year in prison (R431).

In his testimony Gayus said he had given US$50,000 twice in line with the demand document.

Cirus and prosecutor Fadil Regan were prosecutors on the Gayus`s case of tax embezzlement worth Rp395 million belonging to a Korean businessman. (*)
