The workshop will be officially opened by the forestry minister and it is aimed at disseminating results of forestry researches on climate change conducted by the forestry ministry`s research and development unit, according to a press statement of the forestry ministry.
The workshop`s theme is "Research to Respond Challenges of Climate Change: The Implementation of REDD+ in Indonesia".
The ministry will reveal results of researches among other things on the demonstration of REDD activities at Meru Betiri national park, REDD Plus and Forest Governance, forestry carbon reserves calculation and information, the role of urban forests in reducing gas emission.
The researches were carried out by the ministry in cooperation with partner organizations such as ACIAR, Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF), and ITTO.
Of the national commitment to gas emission reduction of 26 percent by 2020, around 14 percent will be contributed by forests.
Other factors which will also affect the program implementation, are policies on public empowerment, good governance, land spatial (especially in river basin areas), forestry industry and forestry product trading.
