Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government has set up a Center for Defense Boundary Research (CDBR) in a bid to handle all border issues in a comprehensive way.

The Center for Defense Boundary Research is under the auspices of the Defense University, Defense University Rector May Gen Syarifuddin Tipe said in a function to dedicate the CDBR here on Wednesday.

He said the establishment of the Center for Defense Boundary Research was based on the complexity of border issues.

"Therefore participation of all parties is needed to speed up the solution of various border problems," Syarifuddin said, adding that the CDBR was a contribution from the Defense University.

He admitted that although the government has given its sufficient attention to border areas and their problems, sometimes it was still sectoral.

According to Syarifuddin, CDBR has three missions namely the implementation of defense consultancy research, training or scientific meetings, and services or publications database.

"Therefore CDBR needs strong cooperation with border related institutions and stake holders," he said.

The dedication of CDBR was also marked with the launch of defense journal and a seminar on border issues.

In addition, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Defense University and Coordinating Body of National Survey and Mapping (Bakosurtanal) before Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro and Research and Technology Minister Suharna.

The MoU contains research cooperation, science and education development, and trainings on Geospatial information field.
