although security personnel stood by the venue the attackers dared attack the car believed to belong to a PSSI executive.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta police arrested eleven people after they allegedly attacked a car belonging to an Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) executive here on Friday.

"We are still investigating their motive," Jakarta police spokesman Senior Commissioner Baharudin Djafar said.

He said the police could not as yet confirm if all the people, known by their initials as TH, MK, DT, AT, KY, RT, RR, OF,RT, RH and AHM, were directly involved in the attack. "But they were all found at the location," he said.

The Jakarta police`s chief of the operations bureau, Senior Commissioner Sujarno meanwhile said the incident happened when executive board members of the Indonesia National Sports Committee (KONI), the Indonesia Olympic Committee (KOI) and PSSI met at the KONI building.

The meeting ended at around 3.30pm and 30 minutes later a mob carrying knives ran after a black car that just left the building.

Sujarno said police officers who stood guard at the location were later able to catch 11 people who were allegedly involved in vandalism.

He said he believed these people received weapons from their friends on three cars.

He said although security personnel stood by the venue the attackers dared attack the car believed to belong to a PSSI executive.

PSSI has been facing conflicts over its future leadership as some are opposed to the current PSSI leader`s candidacy for another term in the post.(*)
