He said the police were still investigating the incident, working hard to find the perpetrator(s) or motives behind it.
"We must not draw conclusions too early regarding who were or the motives behind it as the process of investigation is still ongoing. Let us just wait for the results of the investigation. We hope it can be solved soon," he said after a meeting at his office.
The impromptu meeting was attended by National Police Chief General Timur Pradopo, head of the State Intelligence Agency, Sutanto, and head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT), Arsyad Mbai.
Djoko called on the people not to quickly jump into conclusions or accusing each other before there was complete evidence.Timur Pradopo said an investigation was still going on.
At around 10 am on Tuesday, someone sent a parcel to Radio News Agency 68H in Utan Kayu, East Jakarta, for Ulil Abshar Abdalla, former coordinator of the Islam Liberal Network.
The package was to be handed to Ulil at around 1.30pm when a security guard saw something suspicious in it and then reported it to police at the Matraman station who then reported it to the East Jakarta police resort.
The chief intelligence of the police resort, Commissioner Dodi Rahmawan and Inspector Bara Libra Sagita then came to check the package. But the package exploded while it was being examined at around 4.05pm injuring Dodi, Bara and a security guard.
Djoko Suyanto called on the public to increase alertness and not to hesitate to report to the police in case they found suspicious things around them.
He said the government condemned the act. "The government condemned anyone behind it. The act is against humanity and our efforts to assure that people should always use peaceful and democratic means and persuasions to settle any problem," he said.
He pledged he would take those responsible to justice if evidence is complete. He called on the people having information that could be used by the police to uncover the case to give it to the police. (*)
