Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Police Watch (IPW) has expressed concern about the recent parcel bomb scare and asked police to immediately unveil the perpetrators of the bomb terror to avoid public unrest.

"IPW is concerned about the spate of bomb terror acts. Ironically, they occurred before Chief of Intelligence and Security of the National Police Commissioner General Wahyono enters retirement on April 15, 2011," IPW coordinator Neta S Pane said on Sunday.

The book-bomb scare began when a book parcel containing bomb was sent to chief of the Islam Liberal Network Ulil Abshar Abdalla at his office in Utan Kayu, East Jakarta, last Tuesday.

The bomb exploded when the police were trying to secure the book. East Jakarta chief detective Comr. Dodi Rahmawan suffered serious injury in the bomb blast.

Such bomb parcels were also sent to Goris Mere, the chief of the National Anti-Narcotics Agency, Yapto Soeryosumarno, the chief of the Pancasila Youth organization, and Ahmad Dhani, a musician.

According to IPW, there has been a tug of war within the National Police ahead of Wahyono`s retirement. Neta said a ranking police officer who graduated from the Police Academy in 1978 had been widely tipped to replace Wayono.

"The rumor has made police officers of other alumni jealous. They hope strategic posts will not be dominated or monopolized by the Police Academy graduates of 1978," he said.

Neta noted that 10 strategic posts were currently held by Police Academy graduates of 1978.(*)
