Semarang, Central Java (ANTARA News) - Islam Liberal Network activist Ulil Abshar Abdalla said he thought the book bomb package sent to him recently was not related to terrorists but his political activity.

"The actor behind the terror I think does not come from a terrorist network," he said after speaking on liberalism and democracy here on Monday.

He said the package sent to his office at Radio News Agency Office 68H in Utan Kayu, East Jakarta, was connected with his political activity so far and his voicing of liberalism.

Therefore, he said, that although the police had already drawn the sketch of the suspected courier he believed it would be very difficult to catch the mastermind.

He said the case had to be handled by political instruments because it was politically motivated.

Regarding other book bomb threats in other regions so far Ulil said that they were not serious and done merely for fun taking advantage of violence issue spreading following the terror on him.

He said the terror might also have connections with earlier acts of violence such as attacks on Ahmadiyah Islamic sect followers in Cikeusik, Banten, and vandalizing of churches in Temanggung, Central Java.

The director of the Institute of Religious and Social Studies (ELSA), Tedy Kholiluddin, meanwhile, said the book bomb terror incidents must serve as a signal for all pro-liberalism elements to keep consolidating.

Ulil, he said, is one of the icons of the group that fights radical movements and extremism to that the threat aimed at him was a threat to plularist groups.

Tedy said there was no need to fight violence with violence but let them who fought ideas with violence to destroy themselves.(*)
