The government gave no reason for ordering Michael Georgy out of the capital, where he had been since February 28 among a group of foreign journalists permitted to report the conflict under government restrictions.
Georgy, an American based in Pakistan, was told late on Tuesday that he must leave Libya, and he arrived in Tunisia on Wednesday.
"We regret the decision of the Libyan authorities to expel our correspondent and we regret the fact that no reason has been given for his expulsion," said Reuters Editor-in-Chief Stephen Adler.
A Thomson Reuters spokeswoman told AFP that the company was trying to find out why the journalist had been expelled, but could give no further details. (*)
