"I would say that there were no documents which stayed over the night."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Preisent Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said he never slowed down the issuance of permits for the examination of state officials who were alleged to have breached the law.
"Rumors have it that there are requests for examinations of officials at the president`s desk. (But) may desk is clean (from that)," the president said when he chaired a cabinet meeting at his office here on Tuesday.
He said that every day he studied and signed at least 15 to 20 documents such as those on laws, presidential regulations, presidential instructions, power of attorneys and also request for examinations of state officials.
"I would say that there were no documents which stayed over the night (on my desk). The documents come out as soon as they come in," Yudhoyono said.
He said that if there was a letter of request for examination of a state official which was returned to the prosecutor`s office or to the police, it was merely because the request was not yet complete. But when it came back to the president`s desk, it was signed soon.
However, the president said that there was also other legal components that were related to the investigation of state officials.
Low No. 32 / 2004 in lieu of Law No. 27 2009 stipulated that if in 60 days permits for examinations of state officials or 30 days for legislators are not issued by the president, investigators could process the investigation.
"Usually, the permits are signed as soon as they arrive on my desk before they fall due," the president stressed.
The president regretted statements by certain government officials saying that the issuance of permits for the examinations of state officials was late, while they did not check it in the first place whether the letter of requests had reached the president`s desk or not.
For that however, the president ordered the Cabinet Secretary, Dipo Alam, and the Attorney General, Basrief Arief to find the letters of request as mentioned in the statement.
