Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The remains of Rosihan Anwar (89) will be seen off at a military ceremony from his house at Jalan Surabaya No. 13, Central Jakarta, Thursday, at 3.30 pm local time.

According to his family, Rosihan Anwar will be buried at the Kalibata Heroes` Cemetery, South Jakarta.

Among those paying their last respects to Rosihan were Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono, Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam, former Information Minister Harmoko, Industry Minister MS Hidayat.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Boediono were scheduled to pay their last respect to Rosihan at 1.30 pm local time.

Rosihan died at the MMC Hospital at 8.15 am local time after suffering from a respiratory problem.

The journalist of three eras began his journalistic career during the Dutch colonial era with the Asia Raya newspaper. He underwent bypass surgery at Harapan Kita cardiac hospital on March 24, 2011 and was allowed to leave the hospital on April 13.

He had led Siasat daily from 1947 to 1957, and Pedoman from 1948 to 1961. Rosihan was a co-founder of the Indonesian Journalists` Association (PWI) and was PWI chairman from 1968 to 1974.

The senior journalist is survived by three children - Aida Fatia, Omar Luthfi and Naila.

He was born in Kubang Nan Dua, West Sumatra, on May 10, 1922, and was known as a historian, man of letters and of culture.

Arief Rahman, a prominent educator and good friend of Rosihan Anwar, considered Rosihan a national educator and teacher, apart from being a noted journalist.

"The issues that he was following closely, are cultural values and democratization, where the freedom of expression is well guaranteed by the state," Arief Rahman said here Thursday, when paying homage to the late Rosihan Anwar.

Despite his old age, Rosihan continued to be very active and often attended seminars and discussions.
