Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon Dimas Samodra Rum conferred the awards on the Lebanese businessmen on the occasion of a business meeting in Beirut on Wednesday, the embassy said in a statement issued on Thursday.
Ambassador Dimas said the awards were aimed at encouraging more trade activities between the two countries.
He said the business meeting was part of the efforts to show Lebanese businessmen latest developments in the economic, trade and investment sectors in Indonesia.
Chief of the embassy`s economic function Ary Raharjo said the five businessmen were the biggest importers of Indonesian commodities among Lebanese companies.
They are Philip Boustany of Boustany United Machineries Co. Sal. (BUMC), Antoine Saliba of Mimosa Sanitary Paper Co., Malek Sinno of United Timber Corporation Sinno Sal., Viken H. Kassabian of UNILEC Sal. and Mohamad Hammoud of Mustafa Hammoud & Co Sal..
Boustany United Machineries Co. Sal. (BUMC) is the importer of Toyota cars from Indonesia. It is the exclusive distributor of Toyota cars, including Avanza, Fortuner and Hilux in Lebanon.
Mimosa Sanitary Paper Co. is the importer of Indonesian pulp, while United Timber Corporation Sinno Sal. has so far imported plywood and block board from Indonesia.
UNILEC Sal. is the importer of LCD Toshiba from Indonesia and Mustafa Hammoud & Co Sal. has so far imported various types of paper from Indonesia.
The business meeting themed "Let`s Invest in and Trade with Remarkable Indonesia" was held at Movenpick Hotel and attended by a number of local businessmen, including head of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Saida, Mohamad Zaatari, and
chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Zahle, Youssef G. Geha. Two-way trade between Indonesia and Lebanon reached US$80.45 million last year.
