Pekalongan, Central Java (ANTARA News) - The value of Pekalongan district`s exports in Central Java last year was recorded at 50.21 million US dollars, or an increase of 64.28 percent if compared with that in the previous year.

Pekalongan district head Siti Qomariah said here on Thursday that the exports of the district were expected to continue to increase in the coming years.

She said that Pekalongan`s exports in 2009 also increased by 34 percent from that a year earlier, but she did not disclose the value.

"In overall, industry in Pekalongan contributed significantly to the local gross domestic product growth. The industrial sector contributed 27.95 percent to the local gross domestic product," she said.

The district head said that the number of small and medium scale industries in Pekalong was recorded at 32,045 units in 2010.
