Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The House of Representatives (DPR) has formed a working committee to supervise state-owned aircraft-maker PT Dirgantara Indonesia (DI) which continues to experience a deficit.

"The aim of setting up the working committee is to enable the aircraft maker to receive capital injection so it will become sound again," Chief of the House Commission VI Airlangga Hartarto said here on Sunday.

He was responding to a call for the government to revitalize the company.

The capital injection scheme would allow the company to restructure its old debts and finance its ongoing contracts and consequently, it would again serve as a center of excellent in the aircraft industry in the country, he said.

The House Commission VI, he said, was highly concerned about the problems faced by PT DI particularly with regard to financial difficulties.

"Therefore, long before the crash of Merpati Airlines Xian MA-60 plane in Papua we have formed a working committee to help PT DI become sound again," he said.

Earlier, a number of figures including former transportation minister Jusman Syafii Jamal, member of the House Commission V Yudi Widiana, aviation observer Dudi Sudibyo and PT DI Director Budi Santoso called on the government to immediately revitalize PT DI which serves as one of the country`s key strategic industries.

They said the revitalization would allow PT DI to meet the domestic need for aircraft.

Airlangga said PT DI must be given a chance to produce commercial planes to meet domestic demand for air transportation following the crash of the China-made aircraft that claimed many lives.

"I think we will get much benefit if PT DI enjoys full trust to produce planes to meet domestic demand for air transportation by injecting a significant amount of funds to it," he said.
