"The MUI must be consistent with its identity as a council for wisely providing religious advice to the government," MDI chairman Deding Ishak said here on Tuesday.
Deding Ishak made the remarks in connection with his reelection last week as the general chairman of the MDI.
In his capacity as the MDI chairman, Deding said his council was strongly opposed to parties who intended to degrade the Pacasila ideology.
"That`s why we call on the Indonesian government to act upon the Indonesian Islamic State (NII) movement which obviously runs counter to the Pacasila ideology and the 1945 Constitution," he said.(*)
