In its press statement received here on Saturday the coordinating ministry of economic affairs said the message was chosen in view of the opportunities and challenges the new globalization is bringing to the Asia Pacific region including Indonesia.
It says Indonesia as a big economy in Southeast Asia plays a strategic role to encourage cooperation and collaboration in the Asia Pacific region in various fields for creating a region which is dynamic, sustainable and responsive to challenges such as natural disasters, access to energy sources, environmental sustainability, food resilience and employment and the Millennium Development Goals 2015.
The Indonesian delegation to the meeting totals more than 149 government and non-government representatives.
The government delegates include the president and vice president, officials from the coordinating ministry of economic affairs, the coordinating ministry of people`s welfare, the coordinating ministry of political and security affairs, the ministry of trade, the ministry of cooperatives and small and medium businesses, ministry of domestic affairs, ministry of industry, ministry of forestry, ministry of finance, ministry of foreign affairs, ministry of communications and information and others.
Delegates from non-government agencies include officials from some national companies such as Pertamina, Bank Mandiri, BNI, Lippo Group, Sintesa Group, Bumi Resources, Indika Energy, PT EMTEK, PT Smart, PT Indorama, Quvat, PT Astra International, Agung Podomoro Group, PT Gajah Tunggal, Gunung Sewu Group and CT Corpora Group.
The WEFEA is the 20th meeting at East Asia levels and the first held in Indonesia.
The meeting carrying a theme of "Responding to the New Globalism" will be attended by more than 600 participants from government and non-government agencies, companies and others.
The subjects to be discussed at the forum are overcoming global constraints, assuring employment and inclusive growth, sustainable leadership and exploring new norms in Asia.
WEF is held annually by a non-profit organization based in Geneva with an aim of improving the world conditions.
The forum involves business players, political leaders, academicians and community leaders to arrange global, regional and industry agenda.
WEF was first initiated in 1971 where European business leaders gathered under the auspice of the European Commission and the Association of European Industries.
The first meeting was led by Klaus Schwab, a professor of business administration of the Geneva University in Davos, Switzerland.
The success of the first conference led to the establishment of European Management Forum which in 1987 changed its name into the World Economic Forum.
The WEF in Davos early in 2011 was focused on Joint Norm for New Reality, and discussed four topics namely responding to new realities, economic outlook and determining policies for inclusive growth, supporting G20 agenda and developing response mechanism for global risks.
