Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - Yogyakarta`s Malioboro street needs to feature more activities or objects of interest to tourists, local tourism official Putu Kertayasa said here on Monday.

"To heighten Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY)`s attraction to tourists the Malioboro area must present more things of interest to them," Putu said.

According to him, Malioboro is the tourism and economic lifeblood of Yogyakarta, so it should continue to be developed with new nuances in order to make it more beautiful in the eyes of both domestic and foreign tourists.

"I am optimistic that with as many tourism activities as possible in the Malioboro area as the center of tourism in Yogyakarta, the tourists will keep coming," Putu Kertayasa said.

He said the Malioboro area is a Yogyakarta cultural tourism asset, and therefore both national and international activities should always be presented there.

"That is the reason why Yogyakarta city administration has conducted several international activities such as Jogja Java Carnival, and Malioboro Festival," he said.

He added that Malioboro Festival would be conducted from June 25-26, 2011 to introduce various attractions of Nusantara Stage, Symphony for Indonesia, Shadow Puppet Performance, Sapta Pesona Competition, Malioboro Photo Competition, and Malioboro Food Bazaar.
