Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina plans to increase import of gasoline to 7.5 million barrels to meet demand during the Islamic fasting month and the post-fasting holidays.

The company`s director of marketing and commerce, Djaelani Sutomo, said here on Tuesday he assured supply during the fasting month and the post-fasting holiday would be sufficient.

"We usually import 5-6 million barrels but in August we will import 7.5 million barrels," he said.

He said the gasoline import is usually increased during fasting month and until the post-fasting holiday.

He said during the post-fasting month gasoline consumption usually rises between five and seven percent.

"Although in some gasoline stations the rise is higher but on average the hike is between five to seven percent," he said.

He said import of diesel fuel however would not be increased but would remain at four to five million barrels a month.

"Consumption of diesel fuel only rises in the beginning of the fasting month and then tend to decline as industries are closed (for the holiday)," he said.

Djaelani said in 2012 the construction of supply tanks in Tanjung Uban, Riau, will finish, to boost domestic supply guarantee.(*)
