Jakarta, July 7, 2011 (ANTARA) - Indonesia is currently studying the opportunities of fisheries product trading to Dutch, as saying by the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Fadel Muhammad in his meeting with the Minister of European Affairs and International Cooperation of Dutch Kingdom, Ben Knapen in Jakarta, today (7/7). To Knapen, Fadel stated, the processing of fisheries products from Indonesia has met the product standard as required by European Unions. For that, fisheries products from Indonesia will not experience difficulties in penetrating the Dutch market and European Unions in general. On this occasion, Fadel also expressed his gratitude to Dutch for the partnership, as well as the grant for € 20 million to develop infrastructure and human resources in supporting the improvement of fisheries quality so that this can increase fisheries export as required by European Unions.

Since 2007, both countries have partnership in marine and fisheries through Working Group of Agriculture, Fishery and Forestry (WGAFF) as well as the partnership signing between the Directorate General of Fisheries Product Processing and Marketing Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries with the Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI). This partnership include overseas marketing management, overseas training program of marketing seafood service centre, and developing cold chain system in fisheries port. For this meeting, Fadel expects that the partnership between both countries in marine and fisheries can continue to be developed and improved to the future.

The partnership between KKP and CBI has produced 25 trainers which include fisheries businessmen and government employee, 15 fisheries company have joined the Export Coaching Programme (ECP), increasing market understanding and promotion of fisheries products through Seafood Service Centre (SSC), and make Brondong Archipelago Fisheries Port (PPN) as a port sample in Indonesia to increase export of fisheries products. In 2010, export value of fisheries products from Indonesia to European Unions were US$330,38 million, raise for 12,73% compared with value in 2009 which was US$369,496 million. By this partnership, KKP target the export of fisheries products to EU for 98,670 tons with export value for US$ 369,496 million.

After attending the signing of Letter of Commitment between Directorate General of Fisheries Product Processing and Marketing Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and Managing Director of CBI, the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs is directly review PT. Dharma Samudera Fishing Industries to see the fisheries processing, as well as to discuss with participants of Export Coaching Program which is helped by CBI in developing the export to European Unions, such as PT.Toba Surimi, PT.Multi Sari Makasar and SSC.
