Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government, in this case the foreign ministry and the relevant government institutions continued their search for the whereabouts of former general treasurer of the Democratic Party M Nazaruddin in several countries.

"The foreign ministry by way of the representative offices in the neighboring countries has been trying to locate the whereabouts of the fugitive," Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said at the Presidential Office here Thursday night.

Earlier Nazaruddin who had been declared as suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in the alleged case of bribery in building the athletes` dormitory of SEA Games in Palembang, South Sumatra, may be in Singapore.

"We already knew that the Singapore government had disclosed that the fugitive had left the island republic," Marty said.

He added that the local government has been trying to find Nazaruddin in Vietnam and Malaysia. On Wednesday night Marty also received information that Nazaruddin was in the Philippines.

"At that night we checked to the Philippines by way of the ambassador, and the the Philippine police and immigration confirmed that the same data are non-existent in the Philippine immigration," he said.

Marty said the officials at the foreign ministry have and will continue to work in looking for the whereabouts of Nazaruddin.

In the meantime, Law and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar sent the Immigration Director General to Singapore for a direct check of information on the whereabouts of Nazaruddin.

Patrialis said the immigration director general will leave for Singapore on Saturday for coordination with their Singapore counterparts. (*)
