"The Indonesia Seven Summit Expedition Mahitala Unpas (ISSEMU) team reached the peak of Denali on Friday confirming itself to be the first Indonesian team to conquer the world`s seven highest summits," the general manager of the ISSEMU team, Mario, said in a statement received by ANTARA News here on Friday.
Mario said this was an achievement to be proud of, made while the country was busy with political wrangling.
The four mountaineers from the Bandung-based Parahyangan University`s Nature Lover Students Group (Mahitala) that have been able to declare themselves as "The Seven Summiters" are Sofyan Arief Fasa, Jonathan Ginting, Xaverius Frans and Broery Andrew.
"We hope the success of the young mountaineers will become an inspiration for the Indonesian younger generation to contribute the best to the country while it has also proved to the world that we can do it," Mario said.
The success of the ISSEMU team to raise the national flag in the snow covered summit of Denali has itself been a history for the climbers.
Mario said the achievement was made with fight, hard work, spirit and sacrifice.
"We thanked all Indonesians that have given moral and spiritual support to and have prayed for them so that they could accomplish their mission," he said.
The four climbers are now on the way down the mountain.
The Denali was the last summit they have conquered after Cartenz Pyramid in Papua, Indonesia, Kilimanjaro in Africa, Elbrus in Europe, Vinson Massif in Antartica, Aconcagua in Argentina and Mount Everest in Nepal.
