"This is important and the embassy should continue to monitor it and provide early warnings for Indonesian migrant workers so that they would stay away from conflict areas for their own safety," Tubagus Hasanuddin, a member of the House Commission I on foreign affairs, said here on Monday.
Tubagus who is a politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) made the remarks in response to last weekend`s major demonstrations by about 50,000 people.
During the demonstrations police clashed with police and caused a number of demonstrators to sustain injuries.
"Seeing the political situation in Malaysia where the opposition leader was injured due to clashes between police and demonstrators, the embassy should continue to monitor it," he said.
He said that the embassy should form a contingency plan to anticipate possible worsening situation in Malaysia.
Referring to reports that Indonesian outlaying islands have become a place for the demonstrators to make preparations for their actions, Tubagus said it was a rumor.
"It should be checked. But we are convinced it is a rumor," he added.
He hoped that the situation in Malaysia would soon recover and return to normal.
"Of course all of us share the same opinion that democracy should be upheld, the people`s aspirations must be heard but everything should proceed well and in a win-win solution," Tubagus said.
