The setting up of the command posts was part of the government efforts to provide good services to the people celebrating Idul Fitri in their hometowns, Transportation Minister Freddy Numberi said here on Tuesday.
The minister was in Solo to officially open a technical coordinating meeting on the land transportation field 2011. The three-day meeting was participated in by 305 people including heads of the regional transportation offices throughout Indonesia.
Minister Numberi said he had discussed the matter with concerned ministers including about the need to provide food, beverages and fuel for those needing them.
"We hope our services next time will be better than the previous ones," he said.
"In less than a month, we will coordinate Idul Fitri transportation means and set up integrated command posts for Idul Fitri starting Day-7 to Day+7," Freddy said.
Based on data from the evaluation of last year Idul Fitri, there had been 1,519 traffic accidents claiming 342 lives, seriously injuring 461 and slightly injuring 938 others from D-7 to D+7.
The traffic accidents caused material losses estimated amounting to Rp6 billion.
The government is doing its utmost to improve traffic safety by launching Decade of Traffic Safety Action 2011-2020 on June 2, 2011 by Vice President Boediono. (*)
