Jakarta (ANTARA News) - PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) recorded a net profit of Rp5.94 trillion in the first semester of 2011, down 1.5 percent from Rp6.03 trillion in the same period a year earlier, its president director said.

"We are optimistic that TelekomGroup will be able to grow in the mid stiff competition in the telecommunications and information industry," PT Telkom President Director Rinaldi Firmansyah said here on Friday.

Up to June 2011, Telkom`s operational income is recorded at Rp34.46 trillion, or up 2.2 percent from the previous year`s operational income of Rp33.71 trillion.

He said that his company`s profit before tax was down 3.7 percent from Rp18.76 trillion to Rp18.07 trillion.

Rinaldi said that his optimism over the improvement of the firm`s financial performance was boosted by significant growth in almost all services to customers.

Telkom`s cellular phone customers up to June 2011 were recorded at 102.32 million numbers, up 15.8 percent from that the same period in 2010 which was 88.32 million customers.

Its fixed wire-line access/FWA increased 17.9 percent from 15.90 million to 18.74 million. In the meantime the number of its fixed line customers also increased 0.3 percent from 8.4 million to 8.42 million.

"This is encouraging because there is a trend that the people are back in loving fixed phone service," he said.
