Bandung, West Java (ANTARA News) - The Pajajaran University (Unpad) futsal team, in its first overseas assignment in Malaysia from July 21 through 24, 2011, grabbed the third grade (champion), the team`s spokesman said.

"This is our very valuable tournament experience, because this is the first time we show ourselves in an international tournament," Harry Akbar, one of the Unpad Futsal team members said here on Monday.

The 6th International Sports Fiesta tournament was participated in by 15 high learning institutes from six countries namely Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Srilanka, Maldives and Singapore.

"We can take new lessons from this championship. Hopefully we can improve our ability," Harry, who served as goalie for the Unpad futsal team said.

Aside from the Unpad futsal team, other teams of Indonesian higher learning institutes namely from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), the Jakarta-based Trisakti University and the Batam University also took part in the tournament.

The Unpad futsal team became the third champion after defeating the Batam University team. Previously, Unpad team defeated the teams of Brunei Darussalam and the host Malaysia`s Mara Technology University.

"We were defeated in the quarter-final, but we remain proud because this is our first experience," Harry said.

According to Harry, the team will make its first overseas experience as a springboard to continue to compete in various competitions of international level.

"We plan to resume conducting exercises next week to prepare for the closest matches in October and November this year. Although it is the fasting month, we`ll keep doing the exercises," Harry added.
