Bandung, West Java (ANTARA News) - Former Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla, owner of PT Hadji Kalla, has expressed interest in investing in monorail transportation in Bandung, West Java, to overcome traffic jams in the city.

"The ideal mode of transportation to overcome the problem of traffic jams in Bandung is monorail," Kalla said after a meeting with West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan at Gedung Sate on Friday.

At the meeting with Ahmad Heryawan, the former vice president presented the project of mass transportation mode under his company, namely PT Hadji Kalla.

According to him, the West Java governor agreed on the concept of monorail construction in Bandung which he explained.

Asked about the amount of investment in construction of monorail in the West Java provincial capital of Bandung, the former vice president was reluctant to say how much.

"The project has long been proposed to the governor and he has agreed on it but for the amount of investment, it will be mentioned later," Kalla said.

According to Kalla the problem of traffic jam in Bandung at present was just the same as that in Jakarta.

"Bandung is more advanced with many tourists, and I think in the next two years traffic jam problem in the city will become a real headache," Kalla said.

He added that if such a problem was ignored without thinking of any possible way out, Bandung would have even worse traffic problem.

"To overcome the problem there is no other way besides a mass transportation system," Kalla said.

According to him, the monorail would around 30 km long to link with several towns near Bandung.

"If completed, the 30-km monorail will have the same quality and engineering with that in Japan and Malaysia," the former vice president said, expressing hope that the construction of the monorail would start in 2012.
