Merak, Banten (ANTARA News) - Thousands of truck are still stuck in the toll road heading to Merak port waiting to get across to Sumatra island, a source said.

"The queue in the toll now reaches 2 kilometers away," said officer of toll road heading to Merak port, Bagus, here on Saturday.

According to ANTARA`s observation, several drivers whose truck stuck in the road were still waiting for their turn to get into the roll-on roll-off ship leaving for Sumatra island.

"I have been here for 14 hours and still don`t know when I can get transported to the Bakauheni port (Lampung province, Sumatra island)," Hendri, a driver working at an expedition company said.

According to the port`s administrator, Hendri said, the long queue was due to the imbalance number between vehicles particularly cars willing to cross the island and the ship to transport it.

Another driver Misno expressed hope that state owned enterprises in ferry business PT ASDP would provide more ships to anticipate the growing numbers of vehicles in Merak port.

Meanwhile, Chief of PT ASDP`s branch in Merak port La Mane said the company planned to add more ships this year. (*)
