Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Opposition leader Megawati Soekarnoputri said the Indonesian nation had become utterly confused about law enforcement in the country.

She made the statement here on Wednesday at the commemoration of the country`s 66th independence anniversary at her Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP) headquarters.

Therefore, she called on the government to be stricter in implementing the law, saying that the rule of law was also part of the country`s independence.

Megawati is the daughter of the late independence proclaimer and first president Soekarno.

Megawati who is also a former president once again did not attend the national ceremony led by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the state palace.

"So long the law is not enforced well we will continue to be hooked by past colonial values," she said.

Without law supremacy she said there would be no justice for the Indonesian people.
