Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA News) - An Indonesian migrant worker hailing from North Sumatra`s provincial capital of Medan, Husin Sitorus,62, returned home on Saturday after being freed from seven-year detention in Malaysia.

Sitorus, a resident of Bogak village, North Sumatra`s Batubara district arrived in Medan`s Polonia airport at about 6.00 pm on an Air Asia aircraft with flight number AK-454.

After arriving in Polonia airport, Sitorus said he was very grateful for being freed from the death sentence in Malaysia.

"I only want to express gratitude after nearly seven years of detention, it was finally proven I was not guilty," he said.

He did not know until after the content of instant noodle carton boxes was marijuana as ordered by one of his friends with initial "S" to be brought to Malaysia in 2004.

In the meantime, the North Sumatra Batubara district head, OK Arya Zulkarnain said after knowing that Husin Sitorus was facing the death sentence, he sent a team to Malaysia to seek legal counsel to assist Sitorus to get justice.

"We appointed two lawyers in Malaysia," Zulkarnain said, adding that Sitorus is an ordinary man who made living by sailing boat to Malaysia.

Husin Sitorus was arrested by Malaysian marine police in October 2004 after a barge he was carrying from the Batubara port contained marijuana weighing 147 Kg packed in eight boxes of instant noodles, when the barge docked in the Malaysia`s Port Klang seaport.

After getting legal assistance from the local lawyers, the panel of judges at the Malaysia`s Court of Appeal issued a free-charge verdict against Husin Sitorus because the charges of marijuana possession was considered doubtful, he said
