"Of the number of inmates getting remission this year, 43,423 people still need to finish their remaining sentence in prison while the rest of 1,229 prisoners will be free," spokesman to the Directorate of Correctional Institutions at the Law and Human Rights Ministry Akbar Hadi said here on Monday.

He said the length of remission granted to prisoners this year was decided by chief of prison in every regions.

Asked about corruption case-related inmates who also get remission this year, Akbar said he had no problem with it as long as the inmates had fulfilled the law requirements such as already having served one third of their sentence.
