Cikarang, W Java (ANTARA News) - The Bekasi district police on Tuesday night deployed 150 personnel to secure convoys of cars and motorcycles marking the eve of Idul Fitri festivities (Takbiran).

The police personnel were mostly deployed on traffic accident-prone roads from Tambun, Cibitung, Cikarang to Kedungwaringin, spokesman of the Bekasi district police Comr. Muryono said on Tuesday.

"We will prioritize security in congested and traffic accident prone-areas," he said.

He said police would take stern measures against participants of the convoys who did not abide by the traffic rules, including lighting fireworks and not wearing helmets during the convoys.

"We have familiarized them with the ban. If they still violate it they will be dealt with sternly," he said.

He said the police would also deploy personnel to a number of places where Muslims would perform Idul Fitri prayers on Wednesday.

"Idul Fitri prayers today ran smoothly. We hope such prayers will also run smoothly tomorrow," he said.

Some of Indonesian Muslims including those in Cikarang and Bekasi, West Java, performed Idul Fitri prayers on Tuesday although the government declared Wednesday (August 31) as the date of Idul Fitri.
