Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) has elected six of the 18 candidate chief justices through voting by 56 attending lawmakers.

"House Commission III has elected six of 18 candidate chief justices following a fit and proper test, namely Suhadi, Gayus Lumbuun, Nurul Elmiyah, Andi Samsan, Dudu Kuswara and Harry Djatmiko," chairman of the meeting who is also chairman of House Commission III Benny K Harman said in Jakarta Thursday.

In the voting, Supreme Court`s court clerk Suhadi who got the biggest number of votes, totaling 51, Commission III member Gayus T Lumbuun got 44 votes, Law Faculty lecturer of Universitas Indonesia Nurul Elmiyah got 42 votes, and Samarinda High Court deputy chief Andi Samsan also got 42 votes.

Tipikor (corruption offence) ad hoc judge Dudu Duswara got 34 votes, and State Administrative Judge Harry Djatmiko got 28 votes.

While other candidates who have not been elected were Sunarto who got only four votes, Made Rawa Aryawan four, Dewi Kania Sugiharti five, Daming Sanusi 11, Iing R Sodikin 23, Husnaini 18, Burhan Dahlan 22, M Yamin Awia one, and Taqwaddin seven.

Heru Mulyono Ilwan, Rahmi Mulyati and Syafrinaldi did not get any support from the 56 Commission III members also attending the occasion.

The 18 chief justice candidates had already gone through a fit and proper test at Commission III from September 20 to 28, 2011.

The Judicial Commission (KY) only presented 18 chief justice candidates to the House, under the request for 30 candidates to fill the 10 vacancies of chief justices in 2011.

Under the Supreme Court Law, not more than 60 chief justices are needed and there are now only 50 of them, leaving 10 vacancies for the high position. (*)
