Bandung, West Java (ANTARA News) - The 6.8-magnitude earthquake that rattled Bali and environs on Thursday afternoon had no impact on the activity of Mount Agung in the resort island which is currently in normal active status, a volcanologist said.

"The quake did not have an impact on the activity of the volcano there," Head of the Volcano Observatory Section at the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) Hendrasto said on Thursday.

The quake did not much affect the activity of volcanoes, he said.

Bali was rocked by an earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale on Thursday afternoon.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said the quake was centered 143 km southwest of Dua Dua, Bali, at a depth of 10 km.

But the temblor did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.

The quake was followed by an aftershock measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale at 03.52 p.m. on Thursday.

At least 46 people have been taken to Sanglah Hospital in Bali following the quake.

Quoting data, the hospital`s head of medical service section, dr Ken Wirasandi, said 46 people had been treated at the hospital but only seven of them were receiving further observation.

"The rest has returned home. They mostly suffered light head injuries," he said.
