The nine areas were economic growth, poverty alleviation, employment opportunities, energy, food and water sufficiency, education, health services, basic infrastructure development, public services and prevention of corruption.
Timika, Papua (ANTARA News) - Three people were reportedly killed and another seriously injured in an ambush by unidentified gunmen in PT Freeport`s concession area on Friday morning, a company spokesperson said.

"According to initial reports from local authorities, the ambush was laid by unknown gunmen and it killed one contractor employee and two non-employees. It also seriously injured one man," PT Freeport Indonesia spokesperson Ramdani Sirait said here on Friday.

According to a police report, the shooting incident took place on a road in low-lying part of the PT Freeport concession area, only several miles from where a similar incident happened on October 14, 2011.

The US mining giant conveyed its condolences to the families of one deceased who was an employee of PT Kuala Pelabuhan Indonesia (KPI) and two others who were traditional miners.

The three corpses have been taken to the Kuala Kencana medical clinic while the case was being investigated by the police.

Mimika Police Chief Adjunct Commissioner Deny Edward Siregar had yet to release any official information on the shooting incident.

Last week (Oct 14) three workers of PT Puri Fajar Mandiri were also shot by an armed group at Mile 37 on the Tanggul Timur road while they were heading to Narayo village. The victims were identified as Yana Heryana, Iip Abdul Rohman and Deden.

Deadly ambushes laid by unidentified armed people in Freeport`s operation area have happened repeatedly since 2009, and killed a total of 11 Freeport workers, security personnel and other civilians, and injured 40 others.

Ironically, all of the anonymous shooting incidents have remained unsolved, whereas the number of security personnel guarding the mining company has been increased.

The latest two shooting incidents had added to the tensions and problems that arose after mass strikes by PT Freport workers demanding a pay rise since September 15, 2011.

Not to mention the cases of road blocks, burning vehicles, concentrates pipe cutting and various other acts of sabotage. (*)
