London (ANTARA News) - British Prime Minister David Cameron expressed revulsion Sunday at attacks on NATO forces in Afghanistan, saying they were a deliberate attempt to distract attention from efforts to stabilise the country.

Thirteen Americans and a Canadian soldier were among at least 17 people who died in a Taliban attack on a NATO convoy in Kabul on Saturday, the same day as three Australian army trainers were killed in the southern province of Uruzgan.

Cameron said he had spoken to the Australian premier and sent messages to the US and Canadian leaders "to express my sadness and revulsion at the deaths of a number of Australian, US and Canadian service and civilian personnel in Afghanistan yesterday".

"High casualty attacks like these are a deliberate tactic to distract Afghans and the international community alike from the key work underway that most threatens the extremists," he said in a statement.

"Britain and its allies will remain resolute in seeing through the job of building up Afghan forces, delivering security and finding a path to a stable, constitutional and inclusive political future.

"This is the best way to honour the sacrifice of those who died yesterday."

Britain has about 9,500 troops in Afghanistan and is the second-largest contributor to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force after the United States.
