Gorontalo (ANTARA News) - Former marine resources and fisheries minister Fadel Muhammad who was once governor of Gorontalo province expressed his readiness to continue developing the region, especially in the fields of agriculture and fisheries.

Fadel made the statement before thousands of Gorontalo people who welcomed him on his return here Saturday from Jakarta where he had stayed since his appointment as a cabinet minister two years ago.

The former minister said he loved Gorontalo region very much, and expressed his intention to continue working as an ordinary citizen to contribute to programs to alleviate the people`s standards of living.

"I have immeasurable love for Gorontalo`s people," Fadel said, adding that he would strengthen the provincial business links nationally and internationally.

Fadel also disclosed he had prepared a development concept especially for the improvement of Gorontalo fishermen`s standard of living. One of the things his concept called for was a program to protect the fishermen`s livelihoods.

He promised he would strive for the realization of several of the fisheries development programs he had initiated as minister in the interest of Gorontalo fishermen.
