"We (National Police Headquarters) have instructed the rank and file at precinct level to increase their vigilance," Inspector General Saud Usman Nasution, head of the National Police Headquarters` Public Relations Division, said here Tuesday.
Saud said the police were also calling on all other parties likely to become the target of terror attacks to do the same.
The two-star police general said the police had obtained evidence the Abu Omar terror group was planning to launch attacks on police precincts in west Jakarta.
The Abu Omar terror group also had plans to abduct and kill Indonesian state officials as well as community figures they consider as adhering to beliefs opposed to its own.
The group had even already formed cells in Jakarta and trained its members militarily to carry out its plans, Saud said.
The rank and file at police precincts had been asked to raise the level of their standard security precautions at their respective stations, put their guard posts and fire arms in a status of alert, and observe high vigilance when guarding prisoners.
The police`s anti-terror unit Densus 88 had arrested 18 members of the Abu Omar terror group in the period July-November 2011 period in different parts of the country.
The Abu Omar group whose arms are believed to have been supplied from the Philippines had formed cells in the Indonesian capital to carry out attacks on the police and other parties perceived by them as adhering to wrong beliefs.
